COMPETITON for the architectural and urban design for the Kaptol, Zagreb

CITY OF ZAGREB and CROATIAN ARCHITECTS' ASSOCIATION (CAA) invite you to the opening of the exhibition of competition entries for the architectural and urban design for the Kaptol area in Zagreb.

The exhibition venue are the premises of the CAA, Trg bana J. Jelacica 3/I. The opening is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 26th, 2008 at 7 p.m.

An open discussion of the competition, including the participants' conversation with the competition jury will begin at 7.30 p.m.

The exhibition will remain open until Wednesday, Oct. 8th, 2008.

 

 

International competition
for the design of the Kaptol, Zagreb (Croatia)

RESULTS

In March 2008, the CITY OF ZAGREB launched a public, single stage, open, international ideas competition for the design of the Kaptol in Zagreb (Croatia) and invited all architects, urban planners or landscape architects to take part in it.
The Kaptol area is a part of the city core as well as an element of the historical urban area of the City of Zagreb, the most complex space considering cultural, historical, spiritual, social and legal aspects.  The competition is primarily aimed at urban requalification of the Kaptol area through its historical identity, contents and traffic elements.
The competition was organized with the support of the Croatian Architects’ Association (CAA).

JURY
Eleven projects were submitted to the jury. The jury, under the presidency of Nikola Basic, architect (Zadar, Croatia), was composed of: Ivica Fanjek, architect, representing the City of Zagreb; Sasa Begovic, architect, representing the CAA (Zagreb) ; Miljenko Bernfest, architect, representing the CAA (Zagreb) ; Igor Franic, architect, representing the CAA (Zagreb); Juraj Kolaric, professor, representing the Zagreb Archdiocese Cultural Assets Office; Dietmar Steiner, architect (Vienna, Austria) and Alan Kostrencic, architect, deputy member (Zagreb).

WINNERS
The jury conferred from 11 to 13 July 2008 in Zagreb and examined the entries. The results were officially announced on  July 13th, 2008. When the adjudication was over, anonymity was lifted and the names of the winners revealed.

2008 Kaptol Zagreb, Urban Design Competition

The aim and purpose of the competition is to obtain the best conceptual urban design and architectural solution for Kaptol which shall serve as a valid professional basis for the preparation of urban planning documentation for integral development of the said zone.

Total prize money is € 39.000, including €16.500 for the winning design.

The competition is open to all Croatian and international architects, landscape architects, planners, urban designers, artists and professional planning firms.

The objectives of this competition are:

•          Urban requalification of the Kaptol area through its history, identity, contents and traffic elements. 
•           an encompassing rebuild of a very valuable area – from Tkalciceva St. in the west to Ribnjak in the east, to Pod zidom, Cesarceva, and Vlaska
            streets in the south and Zvonarnicka and Degenova in the north, with special attention to Kaptol and the stretch before the Cathedral

•           The necessity of traffic relief, and setting up of different amenities, ground and communal-urban re-arrangement according to the historical value of the area
•           Examine the possibilities for placing the Museum, the Treasury and the Archbishop Archive – three principal Kaptol structures 
•           Collection of a multitude of ideas.
